school's been a-okay, as usual.
anyway, today is SYTYCD day! =D so, presenting the best routine of the night...
a deep, moving, and simply beautiful contemporary routine by Mia Michaels performed by Kayla & Kupono. amazing! (:
and of course, the better Hip-Hop routine by my favourite couple, which i totally enjoyed:
but this week, their Hip-Hop group routine wasn't exactly very well done, so i'm not gonna bother putting that up. and omg, Caitlin is out! ): one of my favourite girls, but really, the competition amongst the girls is so much tougher and stiffer. so oh well.
(yes, THAT si unit of magnetic flux density) was born today, 153 years ago. so um, happy birthday to him!
and omg, Boys over Flowers is so addictive! xD i can't believe i'm actually watching it, haha. but i must say, Korean entertainment is going places! (:

crazy, cruel tennis
indeed, such is the nature of my all-time favourite sport. which is exemplified by the heart-wrenching defeat of
Andy Roddick in the finals of the
Wimbledon Men's Singles against
Roger Federer. and for those of you who caught it, i'm sure that you know what a tight, epic match it was.
honestly, i felt that Roddick played better throughout the match, but Federer got the crucial points that mattered. and that was how it all went down. i mean Roddick's serve was not broken until the final game when it was at Championship point, while Federer's serve was already broken at least once by Roddick. how tragic! and really, Roddick had the more solid serve. of the many chances he had, the one that cost him most was when he failed to capitalise on his 6-2 lead in the second set tie-breaker, which could've easily won him the match. though of course, it can't be said for certain. that said, Federer was a fighter through and through, and i guess that was what gave him the edge.
in essence, it was a truly epic match! and as much as i hate to see either of them lose, someone had to win it, and you could say the best man did.
although i sat on the fence for this finals, i couldn't help but feel so sorry for Roddick for his devastating loss, especially when he had already given it his all and had played the best he could. already, going into the finals,
these two men had a lot at stake - for Federer, it was to be his 6th Wimbledon title, record-15th Grand Slam title, and the No. 1 ranking, while for Roddick, it was to be his only 2nd Grand Slam title since US Open 2003, and the No. 4 ranking. so i really couldn't not support either of them, and moreover, they are such great players and individuals!
alas,
Federer triumphed and will be back at No. 1, and also enter the lone territory of having 16 Grand Slam singles titles to his name. but like
Shawn said, i hope it'll be a sign of good things to come for
Roddick as well! (:
read:
Epic win gives Federer record 15th Slam
How often will Andy Roddick wake in the night over the coming months and find himself back on Centre Court, reliving his failure to convert one of the four set points he held in the second set tiebreak?
Roddick's second set nightmare
Roger Federer became tennis's greatest champion as he beat Andy Roddick 5-7 7-6 (8-6) 7-6 (7-5) 3-6 16-14 to claim his sixth Wimbledon crown. It was a record 15th Grand Slam title, surpassing Pete Sampras who was in the Royal Box
to steal a quote from the second article:
"Elite sport is played out in an arena as wonderful as it is cruel, and only the bravest need apply." indeed. =/
and of course, this was reminiscent of the
Dementieva-Serena semis which Dementieva had a number of opportunities to win it. remember that second set when Dementieva was 3-2 up? alas, Serena got the crucial points she needed and won.
read:
Dementieva disappointed at missed chance
Elena Dementieva could not hide her disappointment as she pinpointed her biggest regret about losing an epic Wimbledon semi-final to Serena Williams after being match point up at one stage.
Serena forced into titanic scrap
After watching Serena Williams sail majestically through the draw, her semi-final against Elena Dementieva produced the result everyone had expected. What took everyone by surprise was the way she was forced to fight to get her win.
and since i didn't cover the Women's Singles finals:
Serena battles to win classic semi
Serena Williams claimed back the ladies' singles title from her sister Venus with a straight sets victory. The first set was close, with Serena winning the tiebreak, but then Venus quickly lost the second set as she struggled with her serve.
okay, with
Wimbledon concluded, we should all just look to the future, i.e. the
US Open. well, i'm hoping hard for a
Federer-
Roddick finals at the Flushing Meadows, and an appearance by
Dementieva in the finals of her niche hard court surface! (:

of happy things!
it's gonna be a
Federer-
Roddick finals at
Wimbledon on Sunday, and boy am i very very happy and excited! xD
Federer will be gunning for his sixth title at the All England Club, while
Roddick stunned Murray and home crowd in an amazing four-setter to reach his first Grand Slam finals in three years. alas, my dream Federer-Roddick finals is happening! (: but the same can't be said for the
Dementieva-
Venus finals which was so close to becoming realised! =/
oh well. but i am now divided over who to support for the Men's finals, so i shall just sit on the fence cos i really am happy if either of them wins it. i say - may the best man win! =D
on to SYTYCD! once again, the Contemporary routine didn't disappoint (and it's choreographed by Sonya baybeh! xD):
Kayla & Kupono - Top 14Choreographer: Sonya Tayeh (Contemporary)
Music: Blue Foundation -
Eyes on Firethough i must say, it's rather annoying that Kayla is so obviously overpraised. and i believe this is the very reason why she keeps being in the Bottom 3, dragging her unfortunate partner along. well, Kupono had better get ready better solos for the weeks to come!
and of course, my favourite couple of the lot with their rather impressive Broadway routine:
Randi & Evan - Top 14Choreographer: Joey Dowling (Broadway)
Music: Sweet Charity -
Rich Man's Frugyou just gotta love them! (:
Top 14 Group Dance (& Guest Performance)
Choreographer: Tyce Diorio (Broadway)
Music: Brand New Day from The Wiz
absolutely fun and entertaining group routine. and oh well, i didn't think that
Karla & Vitolio deserved to be in the Bottom 3 cos they really did their
Quickstep routine well. and alas, they were sent home. but again, like i've said before, the competition's really stiff for this Season. no one can afford any mis-steps, literally. xD
alright, nights! (:

listen to the music!
okay, so
Dementieva didn't capitalise on her many chances yesterday to book an appearance at the finals of Wimbledon. which was a real pity considering how well she played and managed to strecth the 25-inch-waisted
Serena. oh well. still, you gotta love Dementieva! =D
anyway, three MUST-WATCH videos:
America's Got Talent 2009
Kevin Skinner - If Tomorrow Never Comes
yeah, another undiscovered country singer who's even worked as a chickens-catcher. and well, people are labelling him as America's very own
Susan Boyle, which of course spells for good things to come his way. but i say, let him be his own Kevin Skinner yo! that guy's got a pleasant vocie. (:
Michael Jackson's Final Rehearsal
just so we all got a sample of the promising comeback concert by the genius,
Michael Jackson, whom we will never see perform again. and by the looks of the footage, it certainly seemed potentially breath-taking.
and finally, as a tribute to the King of Pop, here's an awesome acoustic version of one of his singles, by the wonderful
James Morrison. (:
James Morrison - Man in the Mirror (Michael Jackson cover)
and since the
Federer-
Haas semis is ongoing right now,
GO FEDERER! (:

everything entertainment
once again, the Contemporary piece for the Top 16, choreographed by Mia Michaels no less and performed by everybody's favourite couple, Randi and Evan (!), is simply beautiful. (:
oh, and
Melissa & Ade did
Rumba very well too, as did
Janette & Brandon with their
Hip-Hop routine.
and of course, not forgetting the really
hot group performance:
Top 16 Group DanceChoreographers: Dmitry Chaplin, Napoleon & Tabitha D'umo (Hip-Hop/Salsa)
Music: Pitbull -
I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)and with regard to the results, it's quite unfortunate that Jonathan got out after his amazing contemporary piece with Karla last week, and similarly so for Asuka. but oh well, this season's Top 20 dancers are overall strong, so it's inevitable i guess. and Jonathan was still too into his gymnastics as opposed to dancing. -.-"
and finally, blogging today without a mention about the the
loss of two Hollywood icons is just unforgivable.
Farrah Fawcett and her long-time companion, Ryan O'Neal
it's really tragic, considering how a wedding was in the works for Farrah and Ryan, and a comeback tour was already planned for the legendary Michael Jackson.
my heart goes out to their family and friends. =/
indeed, it was a tragic 25th of June for the entertainment industry.
- Tuesday, June 23, 2009
i must commend the youtuber for his smart sense of humour and excellent video-making/editing skills. light-hearted entertainment, yes? ohwell, even if you don't, at least i think so. xD
oh, and do you remember this:
now, three years later and with an addition to the two adorable brothers somewhere in between, their parents have put up an equally adorable video of the three brothers, featuring the youngest one, who's been learning how to walk:
simply adorable right! =D okay, that should've already made your day, haha.
anyway, in other news - the prestigious
WIMBLEDON has started! (((:
and so far, most of my faves are through to the Second Round, namely
Federer,
Dementieva,
Verdasco and
Roddick. at the moment,
Kuznetsova and
Safin (NOT
Safina) have yet to play.
well, i'm expecting
Federer to reclaim his Wimbledon throne and sixth Gentlemen's Singles title, while i still have faith in
Venus to defend hers and also grab her sixth Ladies' Singles title.
as far as how the draw plays out, i hope to see a Federer-Verdasco quarters, then Federer(hopefully!)-Djokovic semis at the bottom half, whereas a Murray-Safin fourth round, Hewitt-Roddick quarters, and Safin/Murray-Hewitt/Roddick semis at the top half.
on the other side, i hope for a Sharapova-Serena quarters, Sharapova/Serena-Dementieva semis, Venus-Kuznetsova semis and eventually Dementieva/Sharapova/Serena-Venus finals.
okay, i'm done with the draw analysis. -.-" and right now, we'll just have to wait and see.
and finally, since family is love, here's a final photo last Sunday after Father's Day dinner:
family! (:okay, i think i should turn in soon.
yet another day of mugging awaits!
=/ =D

already gone
caught two movies yesterday -
I Love You, Man and
Taking of Pelham 123 - with awesome company! (:
so thank you
2Five and
batchmates (i.e.
mats, including those who tak sempat join but i understand ttm) for the birthday celebrations! =D
really much appreaciated. and oh ya, thanks
mats for the "brother" card ah, very apt indeed.
at fish&co. glasshouse! (:
and since i've been listening to a lot of mellow music, i thought i'd share one that really gets to me.
so here's a very sappy but absolutely wonderfully written ballad (by the amazing
Ryan Tedder and
Kelly herself), slated to be Kelly's fourth single from
All I've Ever Wanted. coupled with meaningful lyrics and Kelly's great vocals, it's bound to be a hit! (:
Kelly Clarkson - Already GoneRemember all the things we wanted
Now all our memories, they're haunted
We were always meant to say goodbye
Even with our fists held high
It never would've worked out right
We were never meant for do or die
I didn't want us to burn out
I didn't come here to hurt you
Now I can't stop
I want you to know that it doesn't matter
Where we take this road
Someone's gotta go
And I want you to know
You couldn't have loved me better
But I want you to move on
So I'm already gone
Looking at you makes it harder
But I know that you'll find another
That doesn't always make you want to cry
Started with a perfect kiss
Then we could feel the poison set in
Perfect couldn't keep this love alive
You know that I love you so
I love you enough to let you go -this line is omg ):
I want you to know that it doesn't matter
Where we take this road
Someone's gotta go
And I want you to know
You couldn't have loved me better
But I want you to move on
So I'm already gone
I'm already gone, already gone
You can't make it feel right
When you know that it's wrong
I'm already gone, already gone
There's no moving on
So I'm already gone
Remember all the things we wanted
Now all our memories, they're haunted
We were always meant to say goodbye
I want you to know that it doesn't matter
Where we take this road
Someone's gotta go
And I want you to know
You couldn't have loved me better
But I want you to move on
So I'm already gone
I'm already gone, already gone
You can't make it feel right
When you know that it's wrong
I'm already gone, already gone
There's no moving on
So I'm already gone

happy birthday to me! (:
yes, i've finally turned eighteen! xD
thanks to everyone who's wished me; your lovely messages really made the day feel so special! (: (: (:
and especially to
angeline dear for spending the day with me! (: haha, despite having to struggle through watching
Drag Me To Hell! which was kinda like a mega horror movie. seriously.
in other news, i totally heart contemporary dance routines! (: they are absolutely amazingly beautiful. go watch these two routines if you haven't! =D
oh, they're from
So You Think You Can Dance Season 5 by the way.
and yes, what a lovely day! (:

music! (:
lovely music from
Adele and
Daniel Merriweather (love his name; ain't it a merry weather today! xD). and awesome music videos, arguably the best from both
Lady GaGa and the
Pussycat Dolls to date - what with that amazing and smart 8-minute short film, and that video which samples Britney's
Everytime and Jess Simpson's
A Public Affair coupled with a Diana Ross hair for Nicole.
enjoy! (:

king of roland garros
& the greatest tennis player of all timeroger federer
14 Grand Slam singles titles to date:
3 Australian Open,
1 French Open,
5 Wimbledon,
5 US Open

alas, on his fourth appearance in the finals,
yes, so
Federer won! (: and in a solid display of his tennis prowess, no less. with a one-sided affair finals, where save for the second set where
Soderling attempted a comeback, Federer was in control throughout, it was clear that the man dubbed "greatest tennis player ever" had the match in the bag. the Swede, unfortunately, couldn't find the form which allowed him to beat Nadal, Davydenko and Gonzales en route to the finals, and was left struggling to play catch-up with Federer throughout the match. so well, certainly, Federer deserved the win. (:
and of course, the tennis great also managed to remain unfazed by that infamous moment, where he was accosted by a fan.

which probably brought to the minds of many, the Monica Seles tragedy of 1993. fortunately thought, no one was hurt. well, i guess we should expect tighter security at Grand Slam finals from now on. =/
and so, that concludes
Roland Garros 2009! (: and i'm particularly happy cos both finals went down as i had wanted them to.
with that, on to the lawn of
Wimbledon later this month! xD
